Although petite standing at 4’11” tall, Dr. Nicole Lee Plenty is described by many as a person with a gigantic heart and a passion for service. During her college years, she held the title of the 2004-2005 Miss Xavier University of LA. After graduating with honors with a B.S. in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana, Dr. Plenty attended Tulane University School of Medicine where she obtained both a Medical Doctorate degree and a Masters of Public Health with a concentration in Health Systems Management. While in medical school, Nicole sat on the National Board of Directors for the Student National Medical Association as Region III Director. She also led efforts for instituting free clinics in the New Orleans area for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Plenty began specialty training as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. While in training, she not only served as Administrative Chief Resident, but was also appointed as the Mississippi State Jr Fellow Legislative Representative for the American Congress of OB/GYNs (ACOG) and served as a national Governing Council member of the American Medical Association Minority Affairs Section (AMA-MAS). Due to her interest and research in public policy, she was one of two recipients of the ACOG Gellhaus Fellowship which she completed on Capitol Hill in 2012.
Dr. Plenty’s passion for service is also evident through her international advocacy and medical missions work in Nicaragua, Mexico, and Jamaica. In addition to these endeavors, Nicole has organized teenage pregnancy prevention seminars, performed researched in etiologies of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, as well as mentored students and medical residents. She has received both local and national honors for her involvement in research and health policy. She was previously awarded the Young Investigator Award at the North American Society for Hypertension in Pregnancy and was recently appointed to the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine National Health Advocacy Committee. Currently, Dr. Plenty is a board certified OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialist at Community Health Network where she is currently the division lead. She is the proud wife of Rev. Dr. James Anthony Plenty, and they have one “fur baby”, Sophie.
